Plain facts
Does it hold up?
Short answers, and the Act where the law is the answer.
हाँ — और कानून का नाम भी।
Is an Aadhaar eSign valid?
Yes. An electronic signature has the same standing as a signature on paper, so an agreement signed this way is legally binding under the IT Act. You authenticate with an OTP on your own phone, and the signature carries its moment.
Information Technology Act, 2000
Is an agreement made on Dharaa a real agreement?
Yes. It’s an ordinary written contract between the people who sign it. Whether a paper holds turns on the same things it always did: the facts, the parties, the duty paid, the signing done properly. Dharaa handles the last three.
Indian Contract Act, 1872
How is this different from an AI that writes contracts?
An AI hands you text. Dharaa hands you a finished paper: clauses from a reviewed library, both people verified, your state’s duty applied, both signatures Aadhaar eSigned, and one record you can come back to years later.
Can I change the wording before anyone signs?
Yes. Clauses and terms stay editable right up until the paper goes out for signing, and what you read in the preview is exactly what gets signed.
What kinds of papers can Dharaa write?
The everyday ones: home (rent, leave and licence, handover), money (loans, repayment, receipts), work (freelance, employment, NDAs), family (declarations, settlements, consent) and wheels (vehicle sale and transfer). The catalogue you see when you start is the live list.
Is this legal advice?
No. Dharaa gives guidance in plain words — what a clause does, what a date means, what usually goes into a paper like yours. For anything large or complicated, a qualified professional should read it before you sign.
Does the other person have to prove who they are?
Both people on the paper confirm who they are, with their own consent, before it is signed. That is what removes “that wasn’t me” later. When more is at stake you can add further checks — and they see which ones first.
Who can see my paper?
The people on it. Your papers sit in your own record behind your login; a signer sees the paper they are asked to sign. Signed copy, who signed and when, what was paid, what was verified — one place.
Is an e-stamp valid?
Yes, where the state provides it. An e-stamp certificate is the state’s own record that duty was paid, issued in your name and tied to your paper. Dharaa e-stamps in the states we support; elsewhere we show you the duty your paper attracts.
Does my paper need stamp paper at all?
It depends on the instrument and the state. A rent agreement must be stamped; an NDA or an employment letter ordinarily is not. Dharaa tells you which yours is, and the rate your state charges, before you pay anything.
What happens if the duty wasn’t paid?
An instrument that is not properly stamped is not admissible in evidence until the duty and a penalty are paid. It can usually be rescued — but only by paying more, and only on the day you were hoping to rely on it.
Indian Stamp Act, 1899, §35
Does it work in my state?
The agreement does: contract law is one law for the whole country. Stamp duty is not — each state sets its own rates, and Dharaa applies the schedule of the state your paper belongs to. You see what yours attracts before you pay.

Is an Aadhaar eSign valid?
Yes. An electronic signature has the same standing as a signature on paper, so an agreement signed this way is legally binding under the IT Act. You authenticate with an OTP on your own phone, and the signature carries its moment.
Information Technology Act, 2000
Can everything be eSigned?
Almost everything. The Act keeps a short list on paper and ink: a will, a power of attorney, a trust deed, a negotiable instrument, and a conveyance of immovable property.
Information Technology Act, 2000, First Schedule
How does signing actually work?
Both of you get a link. Each person first sees the same one-screen summary in plain words — who, what, how much, by when — and only then signs. Nobody signs a paper the other person has not seen.
What if the other person is in another city, or abroad?
Aadhaar eSign works wherever there is an Aadhaar and a phone that can receive the OTP. The two of you never have to be in the same room, or the same country. For someone without Aadhaar, Dharaa Direct Sign is there.
What if a payment or a signature doesn’t go through?
Nothing is lost. Payment and signing are separate states, so a cancelled payment never marks a paper as paid, and an interrupted signing picks up where it stopped. You come back to the same paper, at the same point.
Is the signed copy I get the real thing?
Yes — the signed PDF is the paper itself, with the e-stamp certificate on it and each signature’s trail behind it. If it is ever questioned there is one thing to produce, not a search through two years of chats.
Is a WhatsApp PDF, or a photo of a signed page, enough?
It is a record, and records matter — but a photo shows a signature. It does not show that the signer was verified, that duty was paid, or when it happened. Establishing those three is the slow, expensive part.
What happens if they don’t pay, or don’t hand over?
The paper already names the path: mediation first, then arbitration if it must, online, through independent dispute-resolution institutions. A mediated settlement is a fresh agreement you both sign; an award is enforced in the same manner as a decree of the court.
Arbitration & Conciliation Act, 1996, §36
